Weekend Happenings

This week marked my first week at my new job which I am loving so far! The girls there are so great and I'm starting to pick up on the new systems. Jon got offered a job today as an SAT/ACT prep course instructor and private tutor for hire at a company out here. We are thrilled! He is still looking for a job at a Pharmacy or hospital for school but that will probably only take up about five hours a week, so this second job is a huge blessing. Way to go Jon!

This weekend was pretty low key. We have a library directly behind our place so we have been going and renting movies to watch since we don't have cable hooked up. Surprisingly they do have a wide variety it isn't just documentaries which I was afraid of and Jon was hoping for....He loves documentaries. I've been able to skirt that particular section and get some normal movies thankfully.

Saturday I got up early to go on my run, (I missed you Megan Hatch!) so we could clean and get to the beach! It was pretty windy Saturday so we didn't stay for as long as I would have liked but we still had a good time. We picked up hot dogs on the way at Skoogies and off we went! It was a little overcast but we still had a great time!

After we came home and I made cookies for the sister missionaries who were coming over to visit us. They are both from Utah and so sweet. We loved having them over and look forward to them coming over again on Saturday for dinner!

Getting Settled

Here is a tour of our little home for the next few years! So glad that my mom could come and help us decorate so we feel more at home. She seriously is too good to us and we couldn't have done it without her! Thanks Maaam! Also big thanks to Jon's dad Howard and Jon for driving the moving truck across the country for four days. I can't even imagine having to participate in such an excursion which is why.... I didn't! I'm the worst.  Good thing they were willing and able to get the job done! Someone had to brave the airlines with the cat and I was the girl for the job. My mom stayed until last Sunday so we had 9 fun days of laying on the beach, touring Charleston and unpacking! Charleston has such a rich history and it just blows my mind that most of the houses in downtown have been there longer than Utah has even been a state. Crazy!

Here are a few photos from the week with my mom.

Poor Frank wanted to go with us on the plane. We couldn't get him out of the car so we decided to just let him come along for the ride to the airport.

My mom and I came across a graveyard in the middle of the city which was pretty amazing/super creepy.

I love the moss that hangs down from the trees here and how the climate and foliage is so diverse. You can have a pine tree next to a palm tree and it's totally normal.

This is the bridge that Jon will have to cross over every day on his way to school. It connects Mount Pleasant and Charleston.

Here is a tour of our new apartment! Starting with our bedroom.

Here is the guest bedroom/office for Jon/room for Jon's clothes since mine take up the closet in our room....whoops!

Living room

Brand new kitchen table which I love! We have three ceiling fans in the house which have proven to be completely necessary in this heat!
 Kitchen

This is Hammock park... I've never seen anything like it. It's to the side of our particular building and is exactly what the name implies. A bunch of Hammocks for people to just go out and lounge on. Although we have not tried them out yet I'm sure it'll be a great time when we do. They also have a pool and tennis courts that we haven't been to yet but are looking forward to!

This is the pond directly behind our building. It is full of Bullfrogs and you can hear them ribb-et at night. This hasn't bothered us since we had a stream next to our old house, however, October is when mating season begins and we have been sufficiently warned that the bullfrogs can get a little out of hand. I'm sure that will deserve a blog post all of it's own when the time comes. I've been told there are fireflies here! I haven't seen any yet but will be ecstatic when I do since I haven't ever seen any.
Back to the kitchen really quick
 Bathroom. Obviously.

And there you have it people!

I wish I would have taken more pictures of us during our little vacation week. I'm so grateful that my mom would be willing to take the time to come out and help us unpack and get settled. Also for all of the friends and family who helped us move. It is a huge hassle and we couldn't be more glad to be done! We had a blast having some family out and can't wait for more family and friends to come and visit!

Intro

We have finally arrived at our new home in South Carolina! Jon, Hazel and I are excited to start our new adventure! I am new to the blogging world so please be patient with my lack of knowledge on how this is done. So! Let's start with a little intro on how we got to this point and found ourselves here in the dirty south.

JON
Jon has been working his little tail off for the last three years in preparation for pharmacy school. He applied to Baltimore, Kentucky, Chicaco and the U. While he was accepted to Baltimore and was offered interviews with Kentucky and Chicago, we both felt that Charleston was the best place for us to be. It helped that Jon received one of the top 10 out of state applicant Scholarships due to his incredible performance on the PCAT. He rocks.  I came with him in February to visit, and was sold the second I stepped off the plane in February, when I was greeted with 70 degree weather. He will be starting school at MUSC starting in August and couldn't be more excited!

ME
After finding out that we were going to be moving, I started looking for a job to put my mind at ease. I decided to put my hard earned Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family studies to good use and continue working in Insurance. I have been working at American Family Insurance for nearly 4 years now, and figured that I would like to stay in the field so I started looking. I was able to contact a State Farm agent who eventually hired me over the phone which was a HUGE blessing. Because of my job we had to move out a little earlier than planned. I started my job on Monday and so far have been loving it!  We are truly blessed that so many things were able to fall into place for us regarding this move and we cannot deny looking back that it is going to be the best thing for us at this point in our lives.

HAZEL
Hazel's journey getting here was probably the most difficult or at least she would tell you this. I flew with my mom and Hazel. In order for this to happen we had to give her a sedative which made her pretty loopy for the two flights over. She rode in the cabin and by the end of the first flight had become fast friends with the three children sitting in front of us. After landing, we proceeded to sneak her into a hotel for the night which is where the sedative eventually wore off... This left Hazel a little cranky to say the least, and I was sure that we were going to be thrown out of the hotel for the cantankerous meowing that ensued the next morning. Now that we are settled she is loving her new home and has become quite the southern belle.

I am nearly undone unpacking and will blog pics of our new little place when that is eventually complete, including our adventure on the way here. I will leave you with a sneak peak of our place and what is yet to come! This is for you Carlvant.
